| Church Recorders - High Sheriff's Visit |

The Church of St Mary and St Peter, Barham We had an “occasion” at the end of September. We had a visit from the High Sheriff of Suffolk, Geoffrey Probert. He is interested in voluntary groups who are making contributions to the heritage of the county. There were forty or so of us in the Church, including members from all eight Church Recording groups in Suffolk, the Area Chairman, some Society Chairmen and our Area Representative. Mr Probert presented ‘long service’ certificates to five members, including Sheila Hancock of TAS South East Suffolk. She has been involved in recording in nine Churches in the Ipswich area over some twenty years. There was an interview on Radio Suffolk a few days later and we understand there will be a feature in Suffolk Norfolk Life magazine in the New Year. It is pleasing to have the recognition and publicity. |

| 25th Anniversary Celebration of Ipswich Decorative and Fine Art Society |

“Giles, Jazz and Fizz” On a pleasantly warm afternoon, eighty seven our members celebrated the 25th Anniversary of our Society at Copdock Hall in the noble and recently restored Copdock Barn, with its peaceful setting close to the Church. We ranged from founder members from twenty five years ago to members who had joined at the last AGM and everything in between. We were greeted with a glass of summer punch and there then followed an entertaining lecture by Barry Venning: “Giles, his Life, Times and Cartoons” There was a local interest, Giles having lived and worked in the Ipswich area. We later enjoyed canapes and ‘Fizz’ followed by slices of the anniversary cake which had been cut by three founder members. This was all accompanied by ‘easy-on-the-ear’ music from the Joyspring Jazz band. The informality of the event gave a marvellous opportunity for mixing and mingling; older acquaintances were deepened and new friendships were made. |
