Visit to the Historic Sites of Norfolk
Thursday 21 March 2019

·      We are very fortunate to have the expertise of Andrew Allen, an East Anglian art historian who lives in East Norfolk and is passionate about its historic sites.

·      After meeting Andrew, we will proceed to Ranworth Church, famous for its painted medieval rood screen and set in a delightful location.

·      From there we will visit Yarmouth Minster, where Andrew will give us a guided tour and short talk. The Minster is the largest parish church in the country and being founded in II0I is the oldest building in the town.

·      Lunch (included) will be at the Grade II listed ‘Star Hotel’ on Yarmouth’s historic quayside.

·      After a leisurely lunch we visit the ‘Time and Tide Museum’ which tells the story of Great Yarmouth and its herring industry.

·      The afternoon culminates in a tour of some of the most important historic sites in the town and the quayside, described by Daniel Defoe as “the finest quay in England, if not Europe.”

·      Time and weather permitting we might be able to include a brief visit to Burgh Castle Roman fort.

Depart Rushmere church car park at 8.15am…. £39 including 2 course lunch

Bookings taken at our February and March meetings.
